GEKON Big Foot

Model: GEKON Big Foot Towed Corrugation

Towed rail corrugation and rail profile measurement trolley — contactless laser sensors with 0.15 μm resolution, grooved and vignole rails, 40 kg, 8-hour battery.

The towed member of the GEKON family — contactless rail corrugation and rail profile measurement behind a railway vehicle, both grooved and vignole rails, with 'stay on track' safety elements, so it passes through switches smoothly without derailing.

Overview & Specifications

Why Choose GEKON Big Foot

  • You need towed corrugation measurement over long distances instead of walking speed.
  • Rail corrugation and rail profiles should be recorded in one run.
  • Both grooved and vignole rails are in the network.
  • Switches must be passed without stopping or derailment risk.

GEKON Big Foot is the towed version of the GEKON modular corrugation measurement system. Pulled behind a railway vehicle, it measures rail surface irregularities without contact on both grooved and vignole rails, and with optional laser profile scanners it records the rail profile and rail head wear in the same run. Laser sensors on two chords give the same 0.15 μm resolution as the walk-behind GEKON Modular.

The robust frame carries "stay on track" safety elements, so the trolley passes switches without derailment. It dismounts into several parts and travels in a wheeled transport box.

  • Towed operation — long distances behind a railway vehicle instead of walking speed
  • Contactless corrugation — laser sensors on two chords, 5 mm scanning interval
  • Rail profiles and wear — optional continuous laser profile scanning from 1 mm interval
  • Grooved and vignole rails — one system for different railway networks
  • Single or double version — one rail or both rails at once
  • Portable — dismountable, wheeled transport box

From Measurement to Report

Measurement runs are recorded with Krab OnBoard 2.0 on a Windows computer. The recorded data is evaluated and reported in Gekon 11: corrugation and wear graphs, profile cross-sections with wear values, section statistics (peak-to-peak, RMS, % of limit exceeded) and 1/3 octave analysis for noise assessment.
