TURTLE
Model: TURTLE Towed Tram Measurement
Towed measuring trolley for track geometry, clearance and rail wear profiles on tramway and railway networks — vignole and grooved rail, synchronized track images.
Towed measuring bogie with non-contact 3D cameras, for tramway and railway networks — measures track geometry and rail wear profiles on both vignole and grooved rail, and passes through switches without any special mechanism. It also measures track clearance using rotation laser technology.

Overview & Specifications
Why Choose TURTLE
- You need towed tram track measurement (not manual pushing) for longer distances.
- Combined track geometry and rail profile measurement is required.
- Non-contact 3D camera technology is preferred.
- Switch measurement without special mechanisms or stopping is important.
TURTLE is a towed railway measurement trolley for efficient track geometry and rail profile inspections — designed mainly for tram tracks. Pulled behind a railway vehicle, it measures selected track geometry parameters together with rail wear profiles, rail corrugation and track clearance. It runs on both vignole and grooved rails. Combining the measured data with synchronized track images lets infrastructure managers and maintenance teams assess track condition and plan maintenance from a single record.
Non-contact 3D cameras working by laser triangulation read both rails from one device, so switches are measured without special mechanisms or arresting systems. The bogie disassembles into two pieces for shipment.
- Towed operation — designed for towing behind a railway vehicle, not manual pushing
- Tramway and railway networks — vignole and grooved rail profiles
- Dual measurement — track geometry + rail wear profiles from the same 3D cameras
- Synchronized track images — measurement data paired with images of the track for condition assessment
- Switch-capable — non-contact technology means no special mechanisms needed
- Corrugation and clearance — optional corrugation unit (evaluated in Gekon 11) and rotating laser clearance scanner (evaluated in LPS Evaluation Suite)
- Inertial measurement unit — IMU for alignment and longitudinal level
- Real-time rail profile graphs — wear and plastic flow values displayed during measurement
- TQI evaluation — Track Quality Index assessment available

Compatible Add-ons
LPS - Laser Profile Scanner
Clearance profile measurement, breach detection, overhead line equipment and platform evaluation, infrastructure scanning
Rail Profile Measurement
3D cameras scan the rail head without contact at a configurable step (1 m is usual), on one rail or both. Rail head wear and the profile shape are calculated and shown in real time; equivalent conicity according to EN 15302 comes from the same profiles
Track Cameras
KrabCamera or an IP camera photographs the track, rails, sleepers and surroundings at a set step (typically 1 to 10 m), each picture tied to the km position and viewed in KRAB 11 with the measured data. A 360° camera captures the full view around the trolley
Corrugation Measuring Unit
A corrugation unit in a box on the measuring triangle arm records the running surface during the geometry run; evaluated in Gekon 11
Differential GNSS Receiver
A high-precision satellite receiver with RTK corrections (GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou) over mobile broadband; the precise position is logged with the measurement
Compatible Software
Fully integrated with the KZV software ecosystem
