The SPIDER wheel diameter measurement system is now available with optional wireless transmission of the measured values. SPIDER determines wheel diameter on railway and tram vehicles, so maintenance teams can assess wheel wear and plan work; its lightweight design suits both workshop use and routine inspections, including assessments before reprofiling.
Bluetooth data transmission
The option uses a Mitutoyo U-WAVE-TM d2 Bluetooth module connected to the Digimatic output of the digital indicator. The reading shown on the display is sent directly to any Bluetooth-enabled PC, tablet or smartphone, with no separate receiver required. Wheel diameter data can be logged and exported with Mitutoyo U-WAVEPAK software, available for PC and mobile.
Transmission range is approximately 16 m in line of sight and about 10 m in a workshop environment. Battery life is approximately one year under normal use.

Removing the manual transcription step between the indicator and the maintenance record shortens each inspection and reduces the risk of errors, which matters most where a whole fleet is measured in one session.
